...I had leftovers from my previous adventure in the kitchen...I'm hungry, and somehow do NOT have a can opener??? How in da....?! Yeah, that definitely threw a hitch in my "plans" for dinner this evening.
As I was Skyping with Jake and B this evening I started getting raaaaather grumpy...at which point I realized that, other than a few sticks of french toast, I hadn't really eaten at all today - never a good plan for me. What I had consumed, however, was and ungodly amount of coffee...and it wasn't even good coffee (Jake, shut it. Shuuut it. I know the sin I am committing by consuming this, errr, stuff, but it's all I have and beggars cannot be choosers...so, until I get paid the end of next month, *cough!* Folgers *cough!* it is....*runs and cries a pool of tears in the corner*)!! The point being, not eating real food on top of drinking lots of caffeine is never a good idea. So, I went to my cupboards and found: tuna! "Perfect! I haven't had a tuna salad sandwich in forever! This is going to be awesome!" Pick up where I left you in the first paragraph of this post: no can opener + no pocket knife (as Jake and B so kindly reminded me) = no tunafish for this lady. Eff! So, I, instead, had a few pickle spears and a huge bowl of yogurt. That still does not constitute a meal, in case you were wondering. I never stopped being hungry, but I just didn't want to cook...I should have opened my freezer...which I am about to do so I can actually get some sleeps tonight. I have microwaveable foods in the freezer <-- another good reason to eat: it helps prevent MEMORY LOSS!!!
Haha, well, other than not really taking care of my dietary needs today, I did get a lot of unpacking done!!! WHOOP! I am officially down to 2 - count it! - boxes of books and I know exactly where they are going! Such a grood (great and good!) feeling. Now it's pretty much just deciding which boxes to keep and where to start hanging things (I just typed that word three times before getting it right...I need to go to bed). Yay nesting!!
Ummm, and as I am now inhaling second-hand smoke from the folks outside our building door (one of the few draw-backs to my complex, I think I just might be the only person who lives here and does not smoke), I am going to close my balcony door, grab a quick snack, and hit the hay.

Who needs to GO to the state fair when...
...they televise pretty much the WHOLE thing! Win!
Oooh! And they did a segment today on canning - I never realized how easy it was. Just throw all your ingredients in a mason jar, close it up, and boil the jar in some watta! Hello project for next year! I'm thinking: balcony garden... Mmm, can't wait for next year's growing season!! I don't think I have enough time/energy/funds to catch the tail end of this year's.
Today was pretty crazy. I spent over an hour driving around Minneapolis looking for the Coffman building so I could get my U-card (translation: student ID card)...well, once I found the dreaded building I got inside to find a 2hr line...neat. Fun part is that I was supposed to meet SW right in the middle of all of this, fortunately her plans had changed she had to cancel today's meeting. Whew! I was still way frustrated with the whole ordeal. The U-Card website said that it would be painless and take just a few minutes to get it done...well, yes, U-Card office, I'm sure that on a "normal" day it is a cinch and takes no time at all...but guess what today was!! Freshman orientation...EFFF!
But, on a brighter note, I got my first piece of real mail today!! Ricci, I love you. That lovely little note was just what I needed. And, look at how lovely the card is!
So, today, Jake and I went on a walk...it was a little toasty, so we cut it short, but it was still nice and good to get out and breathe some fresh air. I really enjoy passing people who are out walking as well...I passed a cute couple with their probably 8-9mo old baby, a young mom with her daughter (could have been her little sister, I suppose...), and people getting home from work. So fun. I'm looking forward to taking more walks as it continues to cool down and before it gets too chilly.
And with that, my sweets, I am going to close.

Adventures in the kitchen
Hokay. So, here is de eeearth... I mean...today, while I was being rather unproductive, I got to thinking about what I should make for dinner.
I have plenty of "box" meals...hamburger helper, read beans & rice, etc. But, I just wasn't feeling any of that tonight. I wanted to cook. And so, cook I did!
I grabbed some jalapeno sausage, whole wheat spaghetti, fresh spinach, carrots, eggs, chili powder, aaaaand tabasco sauce and made some magic happen! I got my inspiration from the one, the only, Josh Ponder...and his epically famous fried rice. {Mmmm, I miss it so.} I was hoping I had some rice in my cabinet, but alas, no such luck. So, I went with le noodles. I threw it all together in my skillet, and this glorious dish is what emerged:

Real quick, if y'all don't know the Stones or Jake, could I encourage you to check them out and include them in your prayers? Those three are just starting off on an incredible adventure in Zambia. Their blogs are fun and out of the ordinary from our daily lives here in America. And Katy posts lots of pictures! Bonus!
So, today my plan was to get up early and get lots done...that did not happen. I snoozed for an ungodly amount of time before finally turning the alarm to "off," at which point I went back to sleep for another 2hrs... Sigh... This morning, well...let's just say I never really met it. Jake - the dog - finally woke me up because he had to go out...sorry puppy, I was a bad mommy today :( I had every intention of taking him to a dog park today, but didn't. I did, however find a good amount of dog parks near my humble abode - hoorays! Maybe while everyone is out at the state fair this weekend he and I can go have a play date :]
I was also supposed to go get my student ID made today...well....that will have to wait until tomorrow morning. I fail.
But! In good news: MY NEW PHONE came today!! Sadly it isn't a super smart smart phone, but it is my same old phone, and it's new, and so far it works like a charm. I can now make/read text messages and call whoever I want to call! Whoop!

Euchaetes, Euchaetes, Euchaetes
So...what will the rest of this week and, presumably, most of next week entail for me? A lot of reading, and a lot of scope work.
Ah, my dear scope, how I have missed you. It's been a little bit since I've sat behind the wheel of an Olympus complete with Leeds light source. So great. Today I got started learning my way around Euchaetes. SW and I discussed one of the papers she gave me to read and then I got to work at the scope. I spent a couple hours examining and sketching wings and wing veins and, ehem...genitalia. Sorry kids...you're going to have to get used to me talking about these critters' unmentionables, 'cause they are key in this study. Aaaand, I'm going to have know my way around them inside and out...neat! Haha. I'm excited.
This project is huge, and I still don't quite have a clue as to what all it will entail, but I am starting to catch little bits and pieces here and there. I can't wait to get that grant in my hands so I can actually see what "we" told NSF we would do with their money, hehehe. I'm not gonna lie, I'm stoked that I didn't have to write a grant for this - talk about awesome.
Gah, this research is going to rock! Once SW finds all of the lit bits and pieces I need {she swears there's reason to her madness - I believer her.} I'll {be much deeper into reading} be ready to go!
Not too much else to report for today...unreadable text message count is now up to 165... I'll probably never get to read them, le sigh.

I found this girl a few weeks back and I'm seriously amazed. Can I be her? Look how trendy she is! I don't think there's an instrument she doesn't play. Her voice is simply amazing. I mean, really. Here's on of her originals:

78 degreeeees
So, today was definitely a scorcher! We topped out at 78 degrees Fahrenheit. Man, I thought I was gonna die. NOT! Today was gorgeous! Breezes, and lovely temperatures. I've had the windows open all day, the a/c off...didn't use the a/c in the car - it was awesome.
Haha, so I was chatting with one of my neighbors a little while ago when I took Jake out for a quick stroll and he says to me, "Man, it was a long hot day today..." I just kind of looked at him for a sec and thought about what he said and replied, "It wasn't hot today..." "Yeah! We wuz ovah in Bloomington an' it wuz eighty-sixxx, mein!" "Haha! I just moved up from Texas...86 is not hot." "Ahhh, yeeeah, aight yeah, you used to dat, then..."
Aaaaand, Jake - the dog has successfully destroyed a tennis ball

So today I went to the AT&T store to see what they had to say about my tele iss. And here is what I got: the guy {super nice, btw} did a full examination of my phone and said that I clearly hadn't dropped it or flushed it down the toilet or anything like that. So it's a matter of them sending me a new tele and me sending my old one back to them. It should be here Thurs/Fri!! So, I can answer calls and call the last person who has called me. So...if you need to talk to me call me or facebook me or email me or comment on the blog!

I am way excited! I have a huge stack of literature to add to the books I showed you yesterday...I am slightly overwhelmed, to be honest. But it's all very exciting. I love learning about new organisms (generally), and since these critters will by my life for the next 3 years, I'm gonna have to get excited about them, and honestly, they have some of the neatest genitalia (don't freak out, genitalia is key in defining who these moths are) eeeeever!
Well kids, my brain isn't entirely functional at the moment, so I'm going to call it a night on the blogfront.
